Church & Community

A church in Kenya that is already meeting under a tree.

The Generations of Wisdom Church in Homa Bay County, Kenya gathers every week. Some people walk more than five miles to be there. The church is designed to give orphaned children and lonely elders a caring church family, and to train local leaders who carry the work.

Happening now

No walls. No pews. Still a church.

Weekly services have begun, and people are hungry to learn, grow and know Jesus more deeply. Hands 4Life's first mission is the Great Commission: share the Gospel, make disciples and strengthen the local church.

Sometimes ministry begins by meeting a physical need first, with a meal, practical help or care for a child or an elder in a hard season.

What the church needs right now

  • Bibles
  • Discipleship materials
  • Meals
  • Transportation
  • Children's ministry
  • Outreach
  • Training for pastors and leaders

Expected outcomes

What Church & Community is designed to change for children and elders.

These are goals, not results yet. Hands 4Life will track each one and report on progress.

  • Building on work underway now

Children and elders belong to a caring church family

    What we will track

    • Children and elders in weekly church life
    • Local pastors and leaders who finish training
    • SDG 3 Good Health and Well-being
    • SDG 10 Reduced Inequalities
  • Building on work underway now

Elders are less lonely, and children grow up with guidance and belonging

Elders pass on wisdom. Children give them company, joy and a reason to get up each day.

    What we will track

    • Regular time elders and children spend together
    • Elders who report daily companionship
    • Children with an elder who mentors them
    • SDG 3 Good Health and Well-being
    • SDG 10 Reduced Inequalities
  • Planned for the years ahead

A model that increasingly pays its own way

Farm sales and trainee businesses will help fund the work, so it depends less on donations over time.

    What we will track

    • Share of costs met by local income such as farm sales
    • Programs run by local leaders
    • SDG 8 Decent Work and Economic Growth
    • SDG 17 Partnerships for the Goals

SDG labels name the UN Sustainable Development Goals each outcome contributes to.

What we believe

The Gospel is where everything begins.

That is why Church & Community comes first on the campus. Hands 4Life is a Christian organization, and our faith shapes how we serve, teach and decide.

The same foundation will run through the whole Generations of Wisdom Micro-Campus: how children are taught, leaders trained, elders honored, businesses developed and food grown.

We are not trying to replace the local church. We want to strengthen it.

Hands 4Life serves everyone, regardless of faith.

More than Sunday

Train first, then go.

The planned campus will be a demonstration community where faith, education, health, agriculture and practical skills are lived out together. Pastors and Christian leaders will come to learn, observe and be equipped, then return home ready to lead. Hands 4Life works with ministries such as Cru, Evangelism Explosion and the JESUS Film Project.

The goal is not to bring everyone to us. The goal is to equip people here so they can take what they learn home.

  1. Step 1

    Equip

Pastors and leaders learn how to share their faith and disciple new believers.

  2. Step 2

    Reach

Then the Gospel goes into the community, including through JESUS Film showings.

  3. Step 3

    Disciple

Trained pastors welcome new believers and shepherd them as they grow.

  4. Step 4

    Multiply

People return home to teach, lead and disciple others.

If you lead a church

Walk alongside Kenyan pastors.

Hands 4Life is looking for churches willing to build relationships with our Kenyan leaders over time: pastor-to-pastor relationships, leadership training, discipleship resources, mission teams, outreach, prayer and financial support.

A church partner helps equip pastors and leaders now, and at the campus when it opens, so they return home better prepared to disciple people and strengthen their own churches.
